The Centre for the Study of States, Power and Globalisation (SPG) is thrilled to announce a guest lecture by Dr Margaret Comer (UCL) on:

Memorisation and memorials, between politics and identity

This seminar will explore the political uses (and abuses) of the past to shore up group identity and security will be introduced and discussed, with a special focus on how and why past violence is commemorated, memorialised, and instrumentalised, and what happens when accounts of past suffering clash or are revised, tangibly and intangibly?

The lecture will consider case studies of contested memorialisation of the Holocaust and Soviet repression in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and the Russian Federation.

Tuesday, 4 March, 15:30-17:00 (Classroom 7)

The lecture is open to the public; all are welcome. Please RSVP: [email protected]
