Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Honours Night?
Honours night is the University’s annual celebration of undergraduate academic achievement and service to the community. The event is hosted by the department of student affairs. Students, faculty and staff members will all be in attendance. Due to the capacity of the venue, the event is by invitation only.
Who is invited to attend?
Undergraduate students who have achieved a GPA of 3.4 for both the Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 term or students who started at the University in Fall 2025 who achieved a GPA of 3.4 or better and invited to the celebration as well as club leaders, the SGA executive board, residence life staff, peer mentors, peer tutor, RIASA peer leaders and cultural ambassadors.
What should I do if I have met the criteria for an invitation but haven’t received one?
Please contact us at [email protected]. We receive our list of eligible participants from registry services and it is possible that you may have been missed off the list unintentionally.
How long do I have to RSVP?
You must RSVP by 5 March 2026 in order to attend. Unfortunately, we cannot accept late RSVPs due to the constraints of our venue and necessary lead time for our catering team.
What is the running order for the evening?
The evening begins with a drinks reception on the lower ground floor of the hotel (outside the ballroom). We ask each guest to collect a name tag from the reception and take it to the table with them so staff can easily identify meal choices at each table. At about 6:15pm, guests will be invited into the ballroom to sit down. The student affairs team will give a brief welcome and then dinner will be served. After dinner plates are collected and dessert is being served, we will start the programme. Academic awards will be first followed by student leadership awards. Photographs will be taken of each awardee or group of awardees. These will be made available in digital form to the entire University community. We expect the evening to end around 9pm and guests to depart by 9:30pm.
What should I wear?
We ask guests to come in business casual attire, but as it is a celebration, please feel free to dress up.
Is there assigned seating?
There is no assigned seating. Please sit with whomever you like. There will be a mixture of students, faculty and staff.
Can I bring a guest?
Unfortunately, due to our capacity at the event, we cannot accommodate guests.
Can you accommodate my special dietary requirement?
Yes! We are eager to be as inclusive as we can be, so please do tell us about your dietary needs when you RSVP to the event.
How are academic awards like ‘best in major’ and ‘best graduate’ selected? How are leadership awardees selected?
The faculty select awardees for academic awards and the student affairs team select awardees for student leadership awards.
Are students invited who have given their time through student leadership?
Yes! We honour service to the community as well as academic achievement on the night. We will also be giving awards related to the Richmond Leadership Academy and careers-related achievements
Will there be photographs taken on the night?
Yes! Our photographer, Bob Seago will be taking candid shots and photos of awardees on the evening. All of these will be made available to the Richmond community after the event.
Are students attending the Leeds campus invited to attend?
Yes! We are excited to celebrate with our Leeds Dean’s list awardees and our team of student leaders who serve the RIASA community.
