A talk with Anisa Sabiri

Everyone is invited to attend our latest online Film guest lecture next Monday morning.
Anisa Sabiri is a London-based Tajik writer-director whose short films and moving image works have been screened at A-list and BAFTA-qualifying festivals, as well as international platforms including Venice Biennale, Documenta 15 and the National Museum of Qatar. Her upcoming short drama, ZERO SUM, produced as part of the Locarno Basecamp talent lab, will premiere at the 79th Locarno International Film Festival in 2026. In 2025, she began her collaboration with ZDF Arte, producing the Track East Series.
Anisa is an alumna of industry talent schemes, including Sheffield Future Producers (DocFest 2023), Basecamp Locarno (2025), BAFA & CHANEL (Busan International Film Festival, 2023), PSVI Film Festival (British Film Institute, 2018) and Docmonde, among others. Her slate of projects has been selected at Edinburgh Pitch Forum, Berlinale EFM Doc Toolbox, Ji.hlava, goEast and Docmonde. In 2023, her projects won the Ji.hlava Co-Pro Market award and the CineDoc Tbilisi Film Mentorship award.
In 2021, her graduating feature screenplay received the Outstanding Screenwriter Award from Final Draft and the London Film School, where she obtained an MA fully covered by the UK government Chevening scholarship. She is a senior lecturer at the University of Central Asia and is one of the contributors to the Independence Project by Doc Society and DISCO Network. In 2025, she received the Arts Council England DYCP award for her work in the field of experimental moving image.
Anisa will be speaking about her journey as a filmmaker and giving practical advice on next steps for graduates who would like to develop a career as a filmmaker.
