We know that living in London can be financially stressful, especially as a student. Browse this page for resources and advice on how to manage your money, make ends meet, and support available at Richmond and in our local area.

If you’re finding it difficult to cope, please schedule a meeting with a Student Affairs team member. We have staff dedicated to financial assistance, wellbeing, and career services.


Food & Clothing Bank

Struggling with food insecurity? Come visit the community food bank, located in the Student Hub. We have a variety of non-perishable foods, cooking supplies, and personal hygiene items.

We’ll always support your food bank requests, no questions asked, and users’ information will be kept completely anonymous. You can take a maximum of 5 items per visit, and all you need to do to access the food bank is fill out this form prior to collection: Richmond Community Food Bank – Fill out form

We appreciate donations from community members who have the means to give back. Feel free to drop them off in the Hub or with security at reception.

The cost of living tends to rise with increase fuel usage in winter, and warm layers can sometimes be expensive. If you need a coat, hat, scarf, or other cold-weather item, stop by our clothing bank located just adjacent to the student entrance of our London campus.

You do not need to request access to the clothing bank – take what you need at any time!

We welcome donations as long as items are in good condition and clean.


Budgeting Tips & Low-Cost Solutions

Free time on a budget? Many of London’s museums are free to visit, and ticketed attractions often offer student discounts. Keep an eye on our “This Week at Richmond” newsletter where we highlight upcoming events!

Travelling on a budget? A great way to save on transport is by applying for an 18+ Student Oyster Card, which grants you access to a 30% discount on weekly and monthly travelcards. Buses are also an excellent way to travel London on a budget at only £1.75 per ride, no matter what time of day it is. Not sure how to pick the most budget-friendly route? Download Citymapper, a transport app which gives up-to-date prices for transport around Greater London.
