At the time of writing, students on a visitor visa may not work (including volunteering) during your stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visa advice may change, so please check the UK Government website regularly.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before Orientation<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>What should I do before Orientation Week?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>As an incoming undergraduate or visitor student:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check your inbox regularly \u2013&nbsp;over the summer, our admissions team will be sending you reminders to&nbsp;the&nbsp;personal email address you provided in your application, asking&nbsp;you&nbsp;to complete&nbsp;a number of&nbsp;administrative steps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Book suitable housing (please contact us on&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:studentaffairs@richmond.ac.uk?subject=iQ\">studentaffairs@richmond.ac.uk<\/a>&nbsp;if you intend to book at iQ Haywood House so that we can assign you to the correct contract dates).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A few weeks before Orientation, we will send you an email explaining how to set up your University IT account. Currently, in most cases we will be able to send you a copy of your letter over email.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How do I get a Richmond IT Account?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>Incoming students will receive access to email and other Richmond systems once you firmly accept your offer and pay our deposit (if applicable). You will be sent an email with a unique link to set up your account password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the steps within the Pre-Orientation Checklist have been completed and we do not need any additional information from you, then in the week leading up to Orientation you will receive an email invitation to the university portal, Blackboard. This is where we host additional materials for the week of Orientation along with notes for all of your classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are having any trouble with this, please email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:itteam@richmond.ac.uk\">itteam@richmond.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How do I access my student email inbox?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>To access your student email, you must have set up your IT password first. Once you\u2019ve done that, you can login at anytime at&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/outlook.office.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">outlook.office.com<\/a>. Your username will be your student ID number, followed by \u201c@richmond.ac.uk\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend that you download the Outlook app in order to manage your student emails. Once you have installed the app, you can add your email account by following\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/office\/add-an-email-account-to-outlook-6e27792a-9267-4aa4-8bb6-c84ef146101b\">these instructions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/office\/add-an-email-account-to-outlook-6e27792a-9267-4aa4-8bb6-c84ef146101b\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Housing and Living in Leeds\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>What is the cost of living in Leeds?\u00a0<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>The cost of living is always changing but, as a guide, people in the UK spend around \u00a350 per week on average on household food (excluding takeaways or restaurant meals). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that your first term is likely to be the most expensive. Before you join us, it\u2019s important to ensure you have money to travel, study, and enjoy time with friends.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>What is Oxley Residence?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>Oxley Residence is a third-party student accommodation site located in Weetwood, Leeds. All first year students are guaranteed accommodation here. It is approximately 5 minutes walk to the Leeds campus.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>What supermarkets are near to Oxley Residence?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>You will be provided with funds to spend at Sainsbury&#8217;s supermarket which is located in Headingley. It is approximately 20 minutes walk from Oxley Residence.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">During Orientation<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How and when do I collect my Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>Students attending Richmond on a visa, will need to collect their BRP cards as soon as possible. You will be sent a letter by UK Visas &amp; Immigration explaining which Post Office branch you should collect your card from (usually Headingley Post Office). <strong>You will need to take your passport with you to collect your BRP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please pick up your BRP card as soon as possible, and bring it to Kirsty Ibbitson so that we can make a copy. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be an organised trip to Headingley during Orientation week when you can collect your BRP if you aren&#8217;t able to collect it before then. <\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How do I register with a General Practitioner (GP)?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>This will depend on the sort of visa that you used when you entered the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are on a visitor visa from Europe, NHS services will likely be free but you must present a valid EHIC card. If you are a visitor from another country, we recommend that you purchase appropriate insurance in order to avoid being billed for unexpected healthcare.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are on a student visa, you will receive access to the NHS via the immigration health surcharge that is processed during your visa application. This entitles you to free NHS care for the duration of your visa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In an emergency, phone 999 or attend an Accident And Emergency Unit (A&amp;E). For non-emergencies, you should normally access healthcare through a General Practitioner (GP) \/Doctors. Staff from our local<a href=\"https:\/\/laurelbank.gpsurgery.net\/\"> GP surgery<\/a> will be attending Orientation so you can register with them.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"lightweight-accordion\"><details><summary class=\"lightweight-accordion-title\"><span>How do I get discounted travel?<\/span><\/summary><div class=\"lightweight-accordion-body\">\n\n<p>As a student, you will be eligible for discounted travel by train (using a Railcard). To purchase a railcard, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.16-25railcard.co.uk\/\">https:\/\/www.16-25railcard.co.uk<\/a> Don&#8217;t worry if you&#8217;re 26 or older, you will still qualify as a &#8216;mature student&#8217;.
