SUMMARY:Business School Senior Project Poster Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Business School Senior Project Poster Exhibition\n\nWednesday 23 April\n1:15-2:30pm\nLobby\n\nPlease join our Richmond Business School students and experience their senior project work.\n\nHere are some of the senior projects that will be presented: \n\n\n\nElena Forghieri\, a senior majoring in Digital Marketing (Minor in Fashion Marketing and Management)\, is using qualitative data gathered on social media to explore the role of User Generated Content (UGC) among three industries: Beauty\, Fashion and Food. \n\n\n\n\n\nKiara Garcia\, a senior majoring in International Business\, is conducting qualitative research to examine how the shift from conspicuous to inconspicuous has influenced social media users’ perceptions across platforms in the context of quiet luxury. \n\n\n\nNitya Joshi\, a senior majoring in International Business (minor in Mathematics)\, is using regression analysis to examine the impact of ESG performance on company growth across emerging and non-emerging markets. His study analyses the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of stock prices from 2021 to 2025 and revenues from 2021 to 2024\, respectively\, exploring how market classification moderates the relationship between ESG scores and financial performance. \n\n\n\nColin Kariuki\, a senior majoring in Digital Marketing\, is conducting content analysis of social media\, i.e.\, social media posts\, captions\, hashtags\, and engagement styles of 15 local companies and 15 international companies based in Kenya. \n\n\n\n\n\nLauryn Kariuki\, a senior majoring in International Business\, is conducting quantitative research to evaluate how consumer preferences differ between fast fashion and luxury brands based on price perception\, sustainability concerns\, and brand loyalty. \n\n\n\n\n\nTim Link\, a senior majoring in Economics and minoring in Maths\, is employing a suite of quantitative econometric tests to explore the relationship between Gold prices and Macro variables to forecast Gold Futures (GC = F) prices using ML models\, LSTIM\, XGBoost and Meta Prophet. This may improve the Central Bank’s announcement policies and provide insights into the viability of RNN ML models to forecast financial time-series data. \n\n\n\n\n\nCarolina de Oliveira Pinto\, a senior majoring in Fashion Management and Marketing (minor in Digital Studies)\, is working on qualitative research to explore whether there are differences in web design across cultures\, analysing specifically visual elements\, structure\, navigation\, language and mobile adaptation of fashion companies from eight different countries. \n\n\n\nSofia Popovic\, a senior majoring in International Business (minor in Fashion Management and Marketing)\, is conducting interviews with students from a range of universities\, including Richmond American University London\, UCL\, the University of Bath\, and Imperial College London to understand perceptions of the transition from traditional to technology-driven recruitment methods and how this is affecting candidate experience. \n\n\n\n\n\nFemke Veenstra\, a senior majoring in Fashion Management and Marketing\, is using a mixed-methods approach to explore the influence of packaging on Gen Z women’s purchase decisions for luxury and drugstore cosmetics.

SUMMARY:Faculty's Role in Student Well-being
DESCRIPTION:The Well-being Research Centre (WRC) will host a talk on Faculty’s role in student well-being by Dr Afsane Riazi\, Associate Professor in Psychology. \nAll faculty and staff are invited to this online talk on Wednesday 23 April April 12:30 \nWhile student well-being is an increasing priority in higher education\, the role of faculty in shaping students’ academic and psychological experiences has received little empirical attention. This talk will draw on recent findings from a focus group study conducted on Richmond students on how faculty impact their well-being. \nFocus groups were conducted with undergraduate and postgraduate students at Richmond from diverse cultural backgrounds\, representing multiple nationalities and academic disciplines. Thematic analysis identified key factors in faculty-student interactions that students associated with academic confidence\, emotional resilience\, and a sense of belonging. \nAlthough the findings are situated within a single institutional context\, they raise important questions about how faculty-student interactions can contribute to student well-being. The session will outline emerging themes from the study and provide an opportunity for reflection of these findings and their implications. \nPlease use the link below to join on MS Teams. \n________________________________________________________________________________ \n\n\n\n\nMicrosoft Teams Need help? \n\n\nJoin the meeting now \n\n\nMeeting ID: 326 995 655 103 \n\n\nPasscode: hY3Ys2kA

SUMMARY:Decolonisation and Museums: Creating the ‘Endeavour’ Galleries
DESCRIPTION:Decolonisation and Museums: Creating the ‘Endeavour’ Galleries   \nWednesday 9th April\, 12:30pm\, Classroom 1    \nDr Claire Warrior\, Senior Curator\, Royal Museums Greenwich   \n The National Maritime Museum in Greenwich\, founded in 1936\, attracts over a million visitors a year and has the most important holdings in the world on the history of Britain and the sea. In 2018\, four new galleries opened at the Museum as part of a major refurbishment\, the ‘Endeavour’ project.    \nThe galleries marked a sea-change for the Museum\, emphasising increased access\, relevance and representation\, augmenting the available permanent gallery space by 40%\, and telling maritime histories anew. Their development was underpinned by an extensive programme of community engagement\, consultation and collaboration\, which is visible in the galleries themselves.    \n  In this talk\, Dr Claire Warrior will discuss some of the challenges and considerations involved in creating the new galleries. How can a museum so deeply embedded in histories of colonialism and imperialism represent their complexities? What are the opportunities and limitations of collections? And what kind of legacy does a project like this create?   \nThis guest talk is presented by The Centre for International Visual Arts and Cultures (IVAC).

SUMMARY:The Challenges of Sustaining Peace: Kurdish Conflict in Turkey
DESCRIPTION:The Challenges of Sustaining Peace: Kurdish Conflict in Turkey\nClassroom F01\, 2-3:20pm \n\nDr Recep Onursal\, University of Kent \n\n\nThis lecture offers a critical examination of the Kurdish conflict in Turkey\, one of the world’s most enduring political conflicts. Situating the conflict within its broader historical and socio-political contexts\, the lecture interrogates the reasons behind its persistence and the barriers that have kept it unresolved for decades. Drawing on core theories of conflict resolution and transformation\, we will dissect the interplay of state policies\, hegemonic struggles\, and identity-based grievances that have shaped this protracted struggle. Participants will gain insights into how previous peace initiatives have failed—ranging from challenges in negotiation processes to the broader regional dynamics—and explore potential pathways toward its resolution and transformation. \nJoin the meeting now\nMeeting ID: 381 784 737 877\nPasscode: XH2St6Ud
